Remastered Feral images test
February 19th, 2009 by ReinderLast year when Aggie was drawing Rogues of Clwyd-Rhan, the size of the images gradually expanded from a width of 560 pixels to, eventually one of 648 pixels, with proportional but varying height. To make things more consistent, I have remastered the pages before Aggie's stint to that same width, but I want to test them before uploading them to the website, to see if the dithering has turned out right and if the pages haven't turned out too heavy (they're at around 200 KB per image these days, which I think is pushing things a bit for webcomics). So I'm posting some of them here to see if they work and look good on various browser/OS combinations. The preview images are scaled down by WordPress, but clicking on them will bring up the full web images:

They all load fine and look great on Firefox 3.0.6, Opera 9.63 and even Midori 0.11 (a promising GTK Webkit browser) on Slackware 12.2. However I do have cable internet, with theoretical 2Megabit/second download speed, usually throttled to a max of half of that, but more than adequate for web browsing, so I think that may skew the usefulness of my impressions. You really need someone with dial-up to have a look at them.

Thanks, Andrew! I’ve had no problems with them either. And I’ve just ran the PNG versions through the Windows version of PNGOUT so they’ll be a little bit smaller. I don’t know when I’ll actually replace the images on the site though… that’s a lot of busywork.
