13. Pirate Recruit 1

For the same gag comic that I created Cap’n Keelhaul for. I was going to do two recruits, because I need a lot of them, but there was a big pile of dishes to wash this morning so I didn’t have time for two. This one came out pretty quickly, though.

It’s 2021 and female pirates in comics are not a rare or novel thing anymore. What’s more, if you’re willing to look, you can find lady pirates in a range of skin tones and body types, and with clothing styles ranging from ‘designed to fall off during battle’ to ‘period and situation accurate and sensible’. But I don’t recall anyone ever giving their lady pirates the kinds of peg legs, hook hands and other attributes that male pirates get. Since I only gave the good Captain an eye patch, I have prosthetics to spare for his motley crew.
