The first Doctor from a disabled perspective

We watched the two very first episodes of the original Doctor Who the other night (“An Unearthly Child” and the one after that) and Rona mentioned that she could identify with the First Doctor’s behaviour because, as an elderly man, he did some of the same things that she sometimes does as a person with a disability: using bluster, bluff and assholery as a shield to keep himself safe while on adventures. For example, when the Doctor says there is no radiation outside, then brings out his geiger counter anyway.

I thought that was an interesting perspective and now find myself wondering if there’s been more disability-based criticism of any of the Doctors. Well, other than Asperger-centered criticism – I’m pretty sure I can find that.
